Testimonials of Past Interns
Ken Nguyen – 7/15/2010
Hello, I’m Ken Nguyen and I was an intern at Realty Links the summer after my sophomore year. I am really glad I was able to work here, since I learned a lot and got actual hands-on experience, especially with QuickBooks accounting software. This experience has taught me a lot about: how to manage QuickBooks accounts for a number of LLCs, how to critically analyze source documents and financial statements, some aspects of real estate investment I had never even thought of before, and more. What is great about this internship is that you are actually a key component in the everyday operations of the company; you are not an intern whose primary responsibility is to get coffee for the boss. The tasks that Leena gives you will help develop you professionally and mentally. You will gain a lot of knowledge through this internship experience, not only through entering in bank statements into QuickBooks or preparing investment analysis reports, but also through talking to Leena, who has many years of experience in the field of property investment and accounting. I recommend this internship to anyone who has an interest in real estate or anyone who is interested in starting his or her own small business in the future.
Rocky Bae – 7/15/2010
The summer internship at Realty Links LLC expanded my knowledge and skills to a variety of fields. I first applied this internship because I wanted to experience the work-life of an accountant. However, Leena Wong has helped me to venture through more than just accounting; she assigned me into other rigorous divisions, such as marketing the lease/sales of properties, managing the client’s investments, and administering real estate between buyers and sellers. Also, the accounting division involves learning to handle transactions and record journal entries onto QuickBooks as well as auditing rental and bank statements to verify all the incomes and expenses are correctly entered. Instead of focusing on one narrow path, this internship will take you on a bigger scope of business. I highly recommend this great internship for students who are still deciding which field to follow because working with Realty Links will identify your strengths and weaknesses in the business world. Through all the challenges you will face in the internship, Leena Wong is always opened for questions and assistance and truly cares in helping you to become successful.
Amanda George - 7/15/2010
This internship provided the perfect opportunity to explore my interests in accounting and much more. I gained hands on experience in accounting, real estate and property management. I was able to enhance my accounting skills through learning to prepare rental accounts, auditing and account analysis. I learned to use Quickbooks including creating journal entries and bank reconciliation. I was able to explore the real estate department and learned how to advertise properties for lease and organize properties for sale. I was also able to gain some background in property management by learning the RentRight program, preparing rental statements and income reconciliation statements. Leena was great about teaching me and making sure I was exposed to a variety of subjects. Through all the challenging tasks my writing skills, computer skills, and multi-tasking skills improved greatly. This has been a very fulfilling internship experience and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in real estate and accounting.
Grace Ko - 7/14/2010
My summer internship at Realty Links has given me a great deal of exposure to numerous subjects related to real estate, investments, and accounting and I can confidently say that it has been a rewarding experience. From the very beginning, I was assigned to challenging but fulfilling tasks, such as learning how to incorporate a limited liability company, auditing LLC files to check whether they comply with state requirements, and writing an operating manual for the supportive services department. The best part about this internship is the ability to work on a wide variety of tasks, from Quickbooks and balance sheets to market research and advertising properties, which not only made it an engaging experience but also allowed me to fully explore my strengths and interests. Leena is very helpful and encouraging; she always made sure that I was learning something valuable from my time here and took the time to share her knowledge and experiences in the real estate industry with me. I would recommend this internship to anyone interested in learning more about finance, real estate, or accounting.
Keith Chan - 5/3/2010
The internship with Realty Links was a great experience. On the first day, I was immediately given responsibilities that could potentially impact the company. Throughout the internship, I was able to learn about the different aspects of the real estate industry, such as filling Schedule Es, auditing income statements, facilitating property tax consulting, performing basic financial analysis of properties, etc. Aside from gaining invaluable business experience, I also learned how to perform basic administrative tasks more efficiently by using tools such as mail merge. The experience with Realty Links has been a wonderful one and I recommend anyone interested in the real estate industry to attempt to intern here!
Andrew R. Kirk - 6/12/2009
During my third year as a finance major at the McCombs School of Business at UT, I held a part-time internship position with Leena Wong and Realty Links LLC for the fall semester of 2008. I was able to gain hands-on accounting, finance, marketing, and investment experience by working with a professional broker, investment clients, and property management. In the internship, I worked with Leena and our property managers, visited properties, communicated with investors and Home Owner Associations, and was even able to sit in on property auctions. During my time with Realty Links LLC, I learned many things including: how to use professional accounting software, how to register and license limited liability companies, and how to manage property listings through real estate web fronts. Leena was extremely helpful and friendly. She trusted me with important responsibility and took the time to teach me about the business, the industry, and much more. In my academic classes and in working with financial companies both in the U.S. and abroad, I have found my semester with Realty Links LLC extremely helpful in giving me a solid foundation for applying and expanding my business knowledge. I gained invaluable experience in the real estate sector marketing properties and managing accounts, and I would highly recommend the internship program to McCombs business students for either school credit or personal work experience.
Corbin Grillo - 5/20/2009
My name is Corbin Grillo, I am a junior finance major at UT Austin and am currently interning with Realty Links LLC. My internship with Realty Links LLC has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my young career thus far. I am truly amazed at how much I have learned in this short time working with Leena Wong and those associated with this company. If you are interested in any facet of the real estate industry, this is an opportunity that you would definitely want to consider looking into. Many of the things I have been taught in school I am beginning to see materialize in this position. I have gained hands on experience working with income statements and balance sheets, as well as analyzing and predicting cash flows from property. Aside from analyzing numbers, there are many other aspects of evaluating property that I am being exposed to. I am becoming more familiar with the process of buying, managing, and selling real estate. My creative skills are also being put to work as I design flyers and advertisements for different properties. Overall, I've gained a great deal of knowledge about the real estate industry and it has absolutely been a worthwhile pursuit.
Margaretta Adrienne - 2011
My name is Margaretta Adrienne and I had an accounting internship with Realty Links, LLC., during transition from Blinn College, Bryan to Texas A&M University during the Summer of 2011. It was the first time I had worked professionally and, of course, I was a little nervous , intimidated and lacked confidence, but I found Mrs. Wong to be a very good and patient teacher who explained everything slowly and clearly so that I could learn and understand exactly what she wanted me to do. I learned a great deal there and now feel well rounded in the career path I have chosen. I learnt how to do a full set of financial statements, write business letters, analyze accounts, prepared tax returns, franchise tax returns, and much more, too much to list here! It was a great experience to work with Mrs. Wong and I would highly recommend an internship with Realty Links LLC., as it will help you to develop your skills and equip you well for the future.
